Traction control and engine light and lifter noises

Traction control and engine light and lifter noises

Postby bayart [OP] » Aug 26 2012, 5:59am

I have a 2007 chevy silverado 1500 ltz with vortec max and afm, 4x4. I was on my way to work on the freeway when out of no where my service traction control and engine light came on and it was reading service traction controler, my motor lost power and started ticking from everywhere on the motor. it was lifters banging around. it has 92,000 miles on it and i change my oil every 5000 miles. the dealer is telling me it is due to oil sludge and it caused my cam and lifters to go bad. I dont think all could have went bad at the same time without warning. someone please help. also i have been going through a quart of oil every 2000 miles. any ideas

Sounds like you are just another victim of Active Fuel Management, that's what destroyed your engine and is causing it to use oil.

Would it be covered under my warranty? There telling me its my fault for not getting enough oil changes and sludge in the motor, but I change the oil when the truck tells me to on the dash, I think its every 3,000 miles.

Traction control and engine light and lifter noises

Postby Machster69 » Aug 26 2012, 11:01pm

Absolutely freaking NOT! Do NOT let them try that shit. There is a service bulletin on the oil burn and also on the lifters. Them assholes are outright trying to screw you not a single single single doubt about it. Pisses me off to hear this! Go insist, or change dealers asap!

Thank you so much for making me feel better about wanting to fight them on this, I will make sure they don't charge me a dime. I have been trying to find bulletins on this topic but its been hard to find. I just want this stuff to back me up when I start arguing.with them. Like I said thank you for helping and I will keep updates coming. I was sure there.was some type of recall on this motor but I can't find it

Just went through the same thing on my 08 with a 6.0 you prob have a collapsed lifter, mine was covered under warranty and so should yours. If they try and screw you you do not have to take it back to the dealer you bought it from any gm dealer will cover a warranty issue I got that information straight from gm itself. Good luck

Traction control and engine light and lifter noises

Correct, any GM dealer can perform warranty service. If the place you bought it sucks, try another GMC or Chevy dealer. Don't let them make you think it's your fault.

Well they have not taken the motor apart yet. There waiting on a oil sample to come back. They said it was because I don't change my oil. I change my oil every time my computer on my truck says too. The oil is always so dirty everytime I change it. So now it was due for a change and the oil is dirty so they are making the asumption that I don't take care of my truck. I got so mad that they said that. I found there facebook page and started letting there customers know how they are. They kept deleting me but I got through to them. The GM of the dealer called me and said he would do whatever it takes to make me happy and he doesn't understand why service dept. Didn't just warranty it. But now they caused problems by doing the oil sample. So now I have to wait until Tuesday to find out what's going on now. If you do have time to find the bullitins that would be great! And I appreciate any help. Thank you so much

Same exact thing just happened to me! I have a 2007 Z71 with a 6.0L. I got the same lights you did. Its at the dealer now and they say they need to replace all lifters and the camshaft. So far they are saying its under warranty, but they did ask if I had proof of my last oil change eventhough it was only a couple thousand miles ago.
