Tuners

Will they shorten my engine life?

Tuners

Hi guys, newbie here. I have been searching this forum since I found it yesterday and don't know how I haven't been a part of it for a few years already! Great info I have found on here so far! I have a question about tuners, I see many threads already but none that deal with the reliability of the truck once one is installed. I have a 2004 2500hd that I tow with, it really doesn't need any more power but I still want more..... My truck has 210,000kms (130,000miles) and I was wondering if a tuner is going to shorten the life of my engine? The truck looks and runs like it is brand new, never a drop of oil on the driveway or a drop burnt even after a long uphill tow. I plan on keeping this truck for a while so longevity is important(thats why I got the 6L).

As long as you don't go too wild and stick with main stream tuners such as Hypertech, Diablo, etc., you should be OK.

Shortened engine life occurs when you start messing too much with the fuel mix and compression ratios but your popular tuners are programmed to stay within engine design limits.

Of course, you can also shorten engine life by the way you drive after you get a tune! lol

And welcome aboard!
Marine because.

Thanks Wingnut. Still not sure what I am going to do. I have the same thoughts about the way I drive. LOL. I figure that if I get the programmer I am going to be stomping on the pedel a bit harder to feel the power......
