What spark plugs?

What spark plugs?

Postby 07BlackOps [OP] » Apr 14 2012, 3:06pm

Ive used the search feature and read most of the threads about spark plugs, but here is the question. My buddy rode with my last night and said my trucks engine seemed to have a "hesitation" as in it would idle smooth and then every few seconds the motor would idle a little "off" if that makes sense. Not that its a rough idle its just smooth then hesitant smooth then hesitant. So I wanna ask, Ive been looking at replacing the spark plugs because well the motor has 168K miles on it and i havent have the chance to pull a plug to get a look. Here is the other question, Ive overheard lots of BS through the years that you should never put Bosch or NGK plugs in an american motor because they arent design for the American trucks/cars is there really any validity to this. Ive never owned a high mileage auto, and most of the cars ive ever owned have been imports normally standard with NGK plugs. So I guess im ask could I throw a set of NGK plugs in my truck and be ok. I know dumb question, sorry for the long winded post, just have no idea anymore.

NGK is not a problem at all, I am running them in my boosted 6.2 right now. For your truck I would just replace with what came from the factory, my guess is they are nearing the end of their life span and just need to be replaced.

Im just not a fan of AC Delco products. Ive had Ac Delco plugs go bad after 2k miles. Ill see whats in there, if they are the stock plugs ill know, but if not ill chance them out. Its gonna cost me if anything about $40 to change plugs!

Yup plugs are a cheap investment, just a PITA to get to the one close to the firewall on the passenger side.

How much of a PITA? Will a Universal and spark plug wrench get it?

Got ya, thanks for the input. Im not sure which plug I will go with, but I might just go with an AC Delco iridium. Ive read lots of good things about those plugs.

Not a problem, let us know if it clears things up for you.

Might be time to check the fuel filter and replace that also. Also checking and cleaning the MAF couldn't hurt either. Both can cause what you are experiencing.

It sure is, I had to lay across the engine to be able to get at it, long arms help too. :P

What spark plugs?

Postby Machster69 » Apr 27 2012, 12:33am

I doubt that stutter is spark related... My old 5.3, and both new 5.3s still have that minor shutter every now and then when idling...
