Which upgrades are best for towing

Which upgrades are best for towing

Postby norfla71 [OP] » Jan 04 2012, 4:05pm

Purchasing a new 2500 6.0 this fall, and would like to know what mods make the biggest difference, both towing and unloaded. I don't care about 0-60 times or beating the kid with the SS beside me, just a reliable tow rig and daily driver.

Too much; already getting the 4:10 gears, and the cam is not an option for my needs. I'm asking about simple bolt-ons.

i would say a custom tune will be the best mod and worth the money.

You can uncork the engine with an intake and exhaust (worked great on my engine!), but a tune will really liven things up. Then again, isn't the new 6.0 engine enough to tow just about anything? How much do you plan on towing? I would think that with the 6.0\4.10 gears combo, you'll hardly feel anything you tow. I've got the first-gen 6.0, and it still can smoke just about anything on the road, after 117,000 miles.

Norfla71, this is nothing to do with the drivetrain, but don't forget about the towing mirrors. They make trailering easier and are great for just backing up.

You have a 2500 6.0L... You don't need any upgrades IMO. Just keep up the maintenance and don't skimp on repair and replacement parts. Other than that, run a good set of brake pads like Hawk super duties.
Marine because.

+1

There's lots of potential in that truck, but it can do just about anything you want it to in stock form. Upgrades are nice, but then you've got to think about the warranty, too.

The absolute best thing for towing is gears, but unless your towing 14,000 lbs or you have upgraded your tire size there is no reason to regear your truck. 6.0s are beast!
