M1-113 is the filter it takes 6 quarts and make sure the oil has the dexos emblem on the bottle, GM is requiring it now.

it doesnt have to have the emblem it just has to be 5w30 and say dexos or better. Any good semi or full synthetic with meet dexos standereds. Get a full synthetic.

Did you measure 10 qts or are you guessing?

6 qts, no GM truck/suv engine takes more that 6 qts. 8 qts can damage the engine, no room for it so do not drive it.

AMSOIL Oil filter is EA15K50
5W-30 is the recommend viscisity
Capacity is 6 qts with oil filter

Code: Select all
Capacities
Engine Oil with Filter
4.3L V6 4.3 L 4.5 qt
4.8L V8; 5.3L V8; 6.0L V8; 6.2L V8 5.7 L 6.0 qt

Ok now i am really worried.
The oil drained was definately 10 quarts. I can confirm that by saying that i used all the 6 quarts empty bottles and started pouring old oil into them to measure exactly how oil. I filled all 8 quarts bottle and there was still some oil left to fill another 2 bottles and dont frorget the spilled oil and oil in the filter etc

The dip stick is definately showing oil more than marked indicator but i have a doubt the dip stick might be installed incorrectly.

Please note i have installed a brand new crate 6.2 L9h in a jeep.

The engine is bone stock.

Does the crate engines come oil already filled as in run in engine oil ? Or empty?

My supplier might have addd all that extra oil and yes i have been driving with that much oil so far so really worried

Well you never mentioned that. You led us to believe it was your Denali and that is what I assumed. The engine might have come fitted with a larger oil pan? Who knows, it can often be the case with performance built engines. But that leads to wonder is something with a larger oil pan would fit in a jeep?

If you did not get it from GM then I think you need to contact the place and find out if it has stock oil capacity or not, 8 & 10 qts is not normal oil capacity for typical GM engines unless the engine is not a L9H but a corvette version of the 6.2L which can hold 10.5 qts with RPO Z52.

Do yo have 10 qts in your Denali as well??

I would go by what the dipstick says. If its showing overfull then IMO its overfull. Is the engine from GM or some performance guru whom might have installed a larger than stock oil pan.

Is Melbourne a US city or are you down under?

????The engine came with oil in it? Who installed the engine?
GM does not ship engines with oil in them, to much chance for enviromental disaster (oil leaking liability). So chances are whomever installed the engine is the one who overfilled.
