Well, I don't have a 6.2, but you can see what they're capable of, if you look at what GM Performance does with them. In the Camaro SS, the 6.2 gets around 430 HP. In the CTS-V, you'll get 556 HP. In the Corvette ZR1, you'll get 638 HP. If you hand your 6.2 over to an aftermarket tuner, I'm guessing 800 HP isn't out of reach. I don't know what GM did when they built the 6.2, but they sure did something right :D!

I could be mistaken, but I believe the 6.2 in vettes is different then the ones in our trucks. I'm sure it wouldn't take more than a google search to find out the engines' differences. One thing I think is different is that the vette 6.2 is different is it has a higher compreion ratio than the trucks.

Big HP numbers out of 6.2L??

Postby Jrluz14 » Aug 30 2011, 5:08pm

All the 6.2 in various vehicles produce different HP due to heads, pistons, rods, cams, intakes, tunes, etc etc. The only thing that's close to being the same is the block itself, and even that varies.

Exactly what I was thinking. Not saying you can't get 600 or more hp out of truck engine, but it would be easier to do with a vette engine. A supercharger, some bolt ons, and a good tune can probably get you past 600hp. $1000' s later of course. :-P
*might need a cam too. Lol*

Yes thats definitely true!! Ive been looking at a few different options as far going N/A. I was just curious if anyone had seen any big numbers from a 6.2l truck engine or 4x4 with this engine putting out big numbers?

Im not looking to drag it or anything but it would be nice to have some big HP if a little mustang gt pulled up to a light next to me and be able to blow his doors off in a lifted chevy 4x4 if you know what im sayin lol very unexpected.

@Blakeocait- Yeah thats what i was kind of looking into, have seen one with any of the above? Thats right my dad always told me HP= More money lol

I have heard of people supercharging some older 6.0's. I'm sure they push quite a bit of HP. But, as an example, if you google Chevy ZR2 concept truck, you will see chevy's response to the Raptor. It has a supercharged 6.2 in it, and pushes 550 HP. That's from GM too, so add bolt ons and a decent tune (aftermarket superchargers are probably better than the one in the concept truck also), and you are probably looking at 600+ HP. If you really want to blow some Mustangs away, save up 20 G's and put a supercharged 572 in that lifted 4x4. Those little mustangs won't know what hit them as you blasted past with 800+ HP. hahahaha

Yeah ive seen a few older 6.0's pushing some pretty big numbers at the track but they were all lowered and 2 wheel drive. I'll have to check that truck out and try to find out what all they did to the motor or if its even the same as the one in my truck. haha if money grew on trees that would be possible but unfortunately it doesnt and uncle sam doesnt pay that much now days. Ill keep searching around

From everything that I have read on this and other forums a good tune will really wake the 6.2 up. That seems like a good amount of bang for the buck!
