Intake

which one to buy

Intake

Postby Shatty [OP] » Dec 10 2011, 7:56am

wondering which intake out there gives the most bang. I have a 2011 silverado w/6.2. Have a 2.25 leveling kit with 20's and 34" Terra Grapplers, 4" Heartthrob exhaust. Guy at work said he heard on a flex fuel, you need to get an intake with a dry filter cause the oil on say a K&N or other oiled filter screws up the sensor.Anyone heard this? Have had K&N's on my last two trucks, but they weren't flex fuel.

The oil can mess up your MAF sensor, but it can do that on any truck, regardless of the flex fuel. As long as you do not over oil it, you should be fine. And you can always clean the MAF if needed.

I'm on my fourth K&N CAI on various vehicles. Well built and love the sound they make on a V8

i read that it really isn't worth it replace the entire intake only the intake tube and stock paper filter.
the stock box seals up against the fender which helps keep intake air cool.
i've been looking at the airaid jr kits w/ the dry filter.
they run less than $200.

LEO, that is a very good point. The stock box (at least on the NBS trucks) draw air through the fender. So it is essentially a cold air intake already.

K/N CAI on all my FI equipped vehicles and never had one single issue even after a cleaning and oiling. The K/N 63 series comes with a box to shield it from under hood temps. I found mine online for less than $250 with free shipping. And they stand behind their product.

This is what I did on my 2010 6.2 and I'm happy with it. The Air Raid tube connects right up to the stock box.
