Performance gains

Postby aksierra11 [OP] » Mar 02 2011, 4:43am

Just thought I would post up a little before and after information for my truck and the potential this motor has.
I own a 2011 GMC Sierra with the 6.2 and 3.73 gears.

To date the current mods are a drop in K&N air filter and a performance muffler in place of the stock and I also removed the stock resonator that use to reside behind the rear axle. Motor is also running synthetic Oil.

According to http://www.edmunds.com/gmc/sierra-1500/2011/?sub=crew-cab my truck from the factory did 0-60 in 6.6 seconds.

Below is attached the print out after i received my truck back from the tuner. The original 0-60 and 0-90 times are with the mods listed above. Shaved almost a whole second off the 0-60 and over 2 seconds on 0-90. Pretty impressive, plus it shifts 20x faster and firmer now.. This thing is a whole new truck now.

Nice gains. I agree with Hartski, if you got the cash either a supercharger or turbo setup! Long tube hearders and high flow cats would probably help out if you want to stay NA but you will need another tune to optimize the parts.

The guy that tunes my truck has an 01 silverado with the 5.3 with a Magna supercharger on it that is just nasty. He keeps trying to get me to go that way but I am not sure I want to drop that kind of money yet. If I want to go stupid fast I always have my motorcycle.

Long tube headers and hi flow cats are in the plans though, still looking into options there. Right now the biggest thing I think is new tires, these stock ones are not wanting to grab till I hit about 30-40 when I really get on it.

Also was looking into a cam swap. Sounds like its a pretty involved process for my truck but people are seeing HP gains close to 100HP. Plus nothing beats the sound of a camed motor :D

**edit
Forgot to mention one nice thing about the guy that tunes my truck. As long as I bring it back to him I have free lifetime tunes. So if I make any modifications to my setup all I have to do is drop it off and he will re -tune free of charge.

Free retuning is a great deal for what you paid, a new cam is a great idea as well. I might consider that down the road but will probably wait for the warrenty to run out before cracking open the engine (that and I will need prior approval by the boss!).

Yea I am also leary about how much i do cause I don't want to jinx my warranty if i ever need to use it. I have talked to a lot of the service guys at the GM dealer and they are all performance nuts and are willing to work with me on most things but i think if I start going to crazy they might have their hands tied.

Lol I always just do it and ask for permission later..... plus it came out of my pocket so ehh.

I just told her to be a little lighter on the throttle when out driving around now.
