I chose the K&N 77 series because I liked the polished air tube better than the black.

I received my KN 63 series Thursday, and it is in the box going back to amazon tomorrow. It was an easy install, minus missing hardware, but easily obtainable stuff. I got the check engine light after a few miles and it seemed to run a bit hotter than normal, but it was 103 ambient so it was just hot everywhere. The air box from factory seems the way to go, maybe trade out the ducting for something better, but I can not recommend the K&N CAI kit.

K&N Intake

Postby fox4wd1981 » Jul 09 2012, 2:54am

did you try cleaning the throttle body and/or MAF sensor? I know sometimes the K&N filter may have too much oil on them at first and the excess can get on the MAF and cause it to throw a code. In most cases it is a quick fix. Just curious...

I researched quite a bit into it so I made sure to unhook the battery while I installed it. I checked the filter for excess oil, and after the light flagged I removed the MAF, cleaned it and reinstalled and nothing changed. I also started the truck and let it idle for some time to let it adjust. As soon as I put the stock back on, the light went off. I did notice the MAF looked to be at a slight offset and not nearly as far into the airflow on the KN tube. There are no provisions to adjust it that I could tell. I would have put more effort into it except the heat shield offers no real isolation from the engine compartment heat. I would say the stock filter box with a better filter and a straight induction tube would be the best set up.

interesting observations.... I installed my K&N intake and I love it. the MAF on mine went right about in the same spot that it would in the factory location, diffrence is it is mounted up against the heat shield. I have had no problems, I love the sound, for sure. to me its a worth while upgrade. your acctualy the first person I've heard think the factory box is better than it. good luck getting it figgured out!

I am glad it worked out for you. I did notice the MAF on yours looks like it would be better than my set up. The probe type just didn't look right to me.
