What is the current time limit on when you can edit a post? I somewhat see where you are coming from on not allowing people to edit posts from way in the past but in reality this is a truck forum. How much personal and sensitive information are people posting in here that allowing them to edit a post from last month is going to really cause an uproar.

To my knowledge there has not been many, if any fights or huge blowups on this site. We are all here to bs and learn info about our trucks, not bitch about our personal problems. If there is a member that is causing problems deal with that member, don't limit the rest of the users cause of the bad apples.

Just my 2cents.

AK - It's not just other members, there is an issue with the searching of posts by Google and the like. Once the posts are created they have embedded coding that allows web search tools to find them and as you get more clicks, they move up the rankings. If you take out some of that information at any given point in time, then it loses its ranking and you site goes back to the bottom. If you need to make another statement about a previous post, just create a new post in that thread with an "UPDATE". No big deal. If it's a minor change, you can contact a moderator to check into it.

To add to what T1 said, it is not just about bad apples. It is about posting one thing and then jumping in the time-machine and going back and editing what was posted. The chronological nature of forums are such that edits of a post are essentially going back in time and it can confuse both human users as well as search engine indexes.

It is better to post a (new) revision then to go back and revise. I hope that makes sense.
