How moderators are chosen

Postby Austin [OP] » Jun 23 2010, 7:54pm

Moderators are chosen based on a number of things:
(in no particular order)
  • How active the person is on the site. How often you visit the site.
  • If good spelling and grammar is used.
  • Join date. How long you've been a member.
  • How comfortable the person might be at being the bad guy.
  • How stable your personality is.
  • The ability to not take things personal.
  • Loyalty. How active the person is on other competing sites.
  • Participation on the site. Technical knowledge of trucks is preferred but not required.
  • The moderator’s role is to bring out a good discussion from the panel, and stay out of the way when it’s happening.
  • They need to understand their position and not take advantage of it or abuse their powers.

That's a solid plan. Essential to have for a quality site like this one. I am administrator and/or moderator for a couple of tractor sites, and know what you're up against. From what I've seen here so far, most people are contributing without being contentious.
If you want to do what you want to do, you have to do what you have to do.

You are right, this site hasn't seen any real altercations or belligerency. The members here are a little more refined, a bit more streetwise and sophisticated than the members of other similar genre sites. :D

In fact, our moderators have had a very easy job thus far. So easy that I'm considering docking their pay. Yes, I believe I will. Effective immediately our moderators will take a 10% pay cut, which puts their earnings at... well,... on second thought maybe we'll just keep them at the same pay rate.

I'd be glad to join the ranks of moderators (if you'll have me) - even at the reduced pay scale. I mean, hey - 10% of nothing is still nothing!

Not a bad idea, you probably meet all the requirements... except one.

  • Join date. How long you've been a member.

6 days just isn't going to cut it. We'll keep on eye on you though. ;)

Yeah, I knew that would be a killer. I joined within 3 days of getting the truck (bet that doesn't count for anything), so I guess we'll all just wait and see what happens.
