Site running slowly

Postby EKinMN [OP] » Apr 27 2011, 12:49pm

On a number of occasions the last 2 days, I have had the site take quite a long time to refresh pages. It has even timed out on occasion. Firefox 4.0 gave me the following notice:

The connection has timed out

The server at www.silveradosierra.com is taking too long to respond.
The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few
moments.
If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network
connection.
If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure
that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.

This has occurred on 2 different PC's. I have heard a couple other members mention this, too.

I'm having this issue this morning. It was working fine yesterday for me.

Let me know if you need any particular information to help in troubleshooting.

I was having these issues almost all of last week. It seemed to be more in the mornings than the afternoon. I thought it was just my connection, then I realized I was on a T1 line...

I'm aware of the issues and have seen them myself the last couple days. All we can do is wait it out.

I noticed something yesterday and almost brought it up in shop talk but figured it was just my slow connection out here.

Generally speaking, these issues are caused by either

1. A peak in site usage, where it ahs to send information to lots of places at once.

2. The same issue as above but more server side. I don't know the specs but Id say the site if probably hosted off a rented server with at least 20-30 other sites. Although not much traffic for this site, the server is trying to keep up with demands for the other sites, and well the pipes in and out get clogged with data.

Id like to see the MySQL database and see what you could do to speed things up as far as page loads go. There is a lot of data being pulled at one time and it probably put a bit of a load on the server.
