18'' Rims and 33'' Tires

Postby SSSilverado23 [OP] » Feb 06 2010, 1:06am

I was thinking about getting some 18's with some 33'' tires on my Silverado. The tires i was gonna get are mud tires. I was wondering how much it affects the ride? Like how much more loud and rough is the ride gonna be from my stock rims and tires? i dont want it to kill the ride as my truck is so smooth and quiet. Also how about gas mileage? How much will it affect that you think?

Yes 33" tires can be noisy. It all depends on which ones you get. If you are making the comparison to stock rims and tires you'll notice a the steering being a little less responsive with taller/wider tires. The plus side is that in the dirt or mud there is nothing like them. The ride is not "rough" on pavement, it is just slightly increased gentle vibration. Nothing you'll notice too much from inside the cab. Gas mileage does get a little worse but not too major either. Mine was like 15.4 mpg to 14.3 or something like that. (I had a lifted Silverado before my SS)

Don't think about mpg and practical things.... just think about how sexy your truck will look! Haha

For sure!!!! Definitly worth the sex appeal. Just trying to decide on bigger tires for like 22's with low pros. Just not sure which way to go. I like the look of both.

DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT PUT 22's with low pro tires on your silverado! those types of tires are for cars and 2WD vehicles! if you have a 4x4, be a man and put on the mud tires!

I have 33" Nitto Terra Grapplers on my truck and I have great ride quality. Before that the were wranglers and they didn't have a very good ride quality and they cost more than the nitto tires. You really need to do your homework before you buy. Don't take the sales guys word for it. Don't ruin a 4x4 by putting 22"s and low pros on it.

I see why a person would spend the money for rims on a hummer. think about it, how many people in their right mind would spend that kind of money to buy a hummer, then take it off-roading? i have been muddin' and trail riding alot in my past and never seen a Hummer H2 or H3 on the trails. those things are so big, most of them wouldnt fit down the trails anyway. those are more for cruising, not for trail rides or hauling loads like a truck. In my opinion, a person should use a truck for what they are meant for, hauling loads and pulling stuff. if you have enough money to make a show truck, then share the wealth! lol!

I'm sorry. It's not cool to put 24"s on any 4x4. H2 and H3 are garbage anyways. Putting wheels like that on them is like putting a bow on a big pile of s**t.
