20" Wheel Issues?

Anyone having problems?

20" Wheel Issues?

Postby KevinC [OP] » Apr 30 2010, 8:34pm

Just purchase new 2010 Silverado LTZ 4x4 with 20" wheels and tires.
It looks like the wheels are aluminum but are covered with chrome coloured plastic? (looks like a hubcap)
Has anyone had any trouble with these wheels scratching, chipping, breaking etc.

Regards, Kevin

Since I live in central Alberta "not using them in the snow" would mean parking the truck for 7 months a year.
What issues are you seeing?

I would guess that the salt and chemicals they use to melt the snow must cause the enamel to peel off the rims. You might pick up a set of steel rims and put some snow tires on them and just swap them out between seasons.
AIR GOES IN AND OUT,
BLOOD GOES ROUND AND ROUND,
ANY DEVIATION IS A PROBLEM.

That is correct the salt will eat the nice chrome.

Thanks for the responses guys. I am sure I will have some problems and was trying to find out if anyone had some real life experience with these wheels. Chev dealer told me they had lots of warranty issues with the other wheels and this was their better solution. IMHO thes wheels look cheap but they don't have an option for me. I will just voice my complaint with GM then suck it up.

Can you post pics of the wheels? I like seeing pictures about what people are talking about since I'm a new truck owner. :geek:

If you have the 20's on there, I bet those tires won't do that great in the snow, anyways. I agree with getting cheap steel wheels and snow tires.
Dang it's hot!

I have a 2010 LTZ Crew Cab 4x4. Took the wheels off to install some splash guards and mine are the same way. You can really tell it when you look at the back side of the rim, they look like they are glued on. We will see what happens when the first snow falls.

why do you say that having 20" tires are bad for snow driving? Wouldn't having the bigger tire help get you up over the snow? Bigger tire = higher impact point.
