2008 silverado Vibration at 65+

Postby Jetpilot244 [OP] » Jan 01 2011, 6:37pm

Hi everyone.

I have an issue withe my 08 Silverado. It is a regular cab Long Bed with a cap on the bed. At about 65 MPH and Up to 95 I have a vibration in the truck that can be felt in the steering wheel, seat, center counsel and dash.

A little history on the truck
I bought it brand new with 3 miles on it. I noticed the vibration after about 11 months and 10,000 miles on it. I took it to the dealer where they allighned it rebalanced the wheels. The vibration was still there and at that point the GM tech line told the dealer to look at the running boards. This made sence to me as the running boards where a hard point between the cab of the truck and the frame. I recently removed the running boards and the vibration is still there. The rear axels, drums, drive shaft and rotors have all been replaced. I was told at this point that it was the tires because they have a 4 ply side wall and I need to put a 2 ply sidewall tire on The dealer swapped the tires and rims from a stock model (I have the Chrome Steel rims) that had the same rims different tires. Still had the vibration. They hooked up there EVA Electronic Vibration Anelizer and it shows that the vibration is with in specs as they call it. If the engine is shut off and you are coasting the vibration is still there.

I am now awaiting a ride with their District Rep for the next step. Has anyone else had a vibration like this and what was the fix.

Thanks
Joe

Man your problems remind me of my 2005 F150. I had about 6,000 miles on mine when the same problem showed up. The only differnce was my vibration was at 45-50mph. It drove me crazy. First the dealer said it was a balance issue and re-balanced my tires. The vibration was still there. Then he replaced my tires and rims and it was still there. Then they said they figured it out, it needed a load force balance. Guess what it was still there. I then had enough of the guessing game and traded it in with 25,000 miles on it. Hopefully the dealer will figure out your problem. Good Luck!!!

I am going back a few years but I had a 87 Olds Cutlass 442 that had a vibration at speed limit and up. To make a long story short, it was a bent rear axle that was causing the problem. One GM dealer could not find a problem but another dealer found it right away.

Vibration at speed can always be difficult to pinpoint. Since you have exhausted the primary candidates (wheels/tires) the other candidates are drive shaft(s) and axles.

I am trying to pinpoint a vibration problem I have in my car that comes and goes - and at times is severe. I think that one is in the torque converter.

Keep at it -- sounds like the process of elimination is helping narrow the field.

Good luck!

Sounds like your U-joint could be bad... also check your tires, I know you have already but i've had a situation where a single weight flew off on me and it led to a vibration that I couldnt figure out for a while.

After a few more trips to the dealer, They were insistent on the tires being bad. They agreed to buy 3 tires and I would buy 1. Once the tires were on the vibration was gone. Turns out that I had a slipped belt in one of the other tires that could not be seen on the tread (normally you would see a tread pattern like a snake)You could see it on the inside of the tire. So the issue has been resolved and the Dealership took care of me. I am very pleased with the outcome.
