So, I have a 1999 GMC Sierra Z71 NBS ECSB and I needed some new tires to replace the 265/75/r16s on it. I hate with a passion that GMC put such a small tire on a four wheel drive, and my tires were 7 years old, so it was time for a change. I went ahead and replaced the brakes, calipers and rotors all the way around. Since the truck was on jack stands, and using the info I learned here, I cranked the torsion bars.
Initially, the truck was sitting at 35 1/4 on the left and 35 3/4 on the right, and around 37 1/2 in the rear. I brought the front up to 37 with the TB crank, then went to Sam's Club where I had ordered some BF Goodrich 295/75/16s. I paid $1064 for the four tires and got them installed for free because of a special Sam's was running. My brother in law works for Michelin who also manufactures Uniroyal and BF Goodrich, so I will get 30 percent off with a rebate, making the tires $742 instead.
Just an FYI, with a TB crank to almost level, these tires fit fine, there is no rubbing at full turn, and I did no trimming. I need to get an alignment next. Hope this helps someone else who is wondering if they can go bigger than a 285/75/16 without cranking.
