Factory wheel load rating

Postby gmctruckguy [OP] » Jan 17 2012, 3:45am

Ok I've been looking for awhile and my eyes are starting to cross, I'm looking for the factory 17" aluminum wheel load rating. I'm going to bite the bullet and get some new wheels and tires but want to make sure my new wheels are strong enough to not limit my trailering ability. Any documented information would be appreciated.

Factory wheel load rating

Postby gmctruckguy [OP] » Jan 17 2012, 5:48am

The rims I'm looking at so far both have a rating of 2200lbs. Haven't decided if I'm going to go with 18's or 20's, they both carry the same load rating.

I would just get something that would carry the load rating of the factory tires. I'm not sure where to find the load rating of a wheel, but I'm pretty sure GM would not put a tire with a load rating above the wheels rating on that wheel. The tire's load rating is on the tire, as I'm sure you already know. I know this is not really a solid documented answer to your question, but I hope it will help you some.

Those wheels should be sufficient. The GVWR on a c\k1500 is around 7000 pounds before the shocks and coils bottoms out.

Factory wheel load rating

Postby gmctruckguy [OP] » Jan 17 2012, 8:23am

I figured they should be good since the max payload of my tuck is 1928 lbs, it's the 6.2l with 3.73's. But I was curious as to what the factory specs were, if anyone knew.

1 ton is a hell of a lot of weight, wow. BTW, those wheels, both of them look awesome.
