Goodyear Eagles junk in snow

Postby craig1971 [OP] » Jan 23 2012, 12:59am

Well those nice looking Goodyear Eagles (275-55-20) look great all shined up but are absolute garbage in the snow. I regret not shopping around and getting a z71 package with 18" wheels!

The tires did just fine on my 03 SS Silverado in the Maine winters. Granted they werent the best and the AWD system in the SS was great. On my 2000 reg cab 4.3 2wd I ended up putting mudders on it during the winter and it was great for a 2wd, but I would still prefer the stock eagles on the SS.

How are they in rain and dry pavement?

They handle pretty good in dry pavement and not too bad in the rain. The dealer had 4 extended cabs all with the same tire/wheel combination.

What's the PSI on the tires now? When I bought my new Michelin tires, the tire shop set the PSI way too high, and I didn't have any traction at all, anywhere, until I aired them down a bit.

The GoodYear's that came with my 09 SIerra 1500 SLE are about as quality as shaved R-Compound tires in the snow. Anyone know what tires came with the ZR1 packages that year?

My '09 Chevy Z71 came with Dueler 265/65/18s and I won't complain one bit.

We had two years of consecutive 1' or more, single event snowfalls having better than 7 ft drifts all over the city. It was so cold the week of Christmas (2009) that the 14" of snow had only melted about halfway before the next 6" snowfall came in just after New Year's and then all that snow lasted well into February. I never got stuck and ended up pulling quite a few people out. The Christmas Eve snow shutdown OKC; but not me. We went out for about 3 hours of fun that night. All but one exit was blocked on the way out of the neighborhood, but some asshole got his Ford stuck in that path within that time period; had to drive through some poor bastards yard to get back to my house (like anyone was awake at 2 am).
