Rims for a 96 k3500 Dually

Rims for a 96 k3500 Dually

Postby farmerjohn4 [OP] » Dec 13 2011, 1:14am

I need help in finding a 16 inch rim with 8 lugs for the front of my Dad's 1996 k3500 dually. I was also wondering if the new rims that you see online, or in stores will work with his truck with no problems.

Have you checked out a local tire shop, or something like Discount Tire, or Tire Rack? Both have great websites. You should have absolutely no problem finding the rims; and as a last resort, you can always check a dealership. Let us know if you need anymore help!

I have checked both, no results for that model on both sites. That is why I was asking if newer rims for a dually would work for this truck. I really do not want my Dad driving on a cracked rim, and as much running as he does, I am not comfortable with using the spare as a main tire, until I randomly find a useable rim.

On those trucks I beleive the spare rim is the same as the others, so why don't you have the good tire that is on the cracked rim mounted on the spare wheel untill you can find a replacement.

Have you checked a junkyard for some rims? They should have a good selection.

We tried putting the spare rim on, the lugs would not tighten down, since it was a customized truck, we are going to have to find another set of lugs to use the spare. Most likely would have to do that on any aftermarket rim for the truck. Where I live it is never a good idea to go a day or two without a passable spare tire.

I really can't remember, I want to say it is a chrome or alloy rim (thinking it is alloy). Trying to find info on Geneva who customized the truck is impossible. In any event, I would be happy just ordering two new rims for the front of the truck, and calling it a day, I did manage to talk him into non-stock rims, if I can find any. It is in his will that he be buried in it, so new or used rims that will work, 2 or 6 I don't care, I just want him to have something safe to drive.

Dunno if you fixed it by now, but pretty sure we used Alcoa's on them (I used to work for Geneva Vans/Geneva SVS in their Sub shop building suburbans/tahoes/pickups/expeditions). The GM pickups were done in a different shop until 96 and all the rims I installed on duallys were Alcoa's. We only changed the front rims and outer rears. Inner rears were stock.
