Screw in tire

Unfortunately, just as I feared, the wheel got a small crease in it where the wheel weight was. They claim this happened when they put the weights on at the factory. Am I to assume that when my tires are replaced, there will be creases where all the weights are? I think the tech may have creased it when he took it off. Either way, they said they will order another rim for me and let the service manager know on Mon. Here is a picture. Should I have let it go? Maybe I am being too picky.

are they going to pay for the new wheel?

The dealer replaced the wheel and said that the ding in the wheel happened at the factory when the weights are pressed on. I think it happened when they took the weight off. Either way, I got a new wheel with no charge. They said they put on stick on weights on the inside every time they dismount a tire. I prefer those anyway since the regular weights look horrible on those rims.

Too Picky? No - it's a new truck, and they ain't cheap!

I was thinking you were worried about the changer damaging your wheel, not the balancer. I think those wheels have a thin chrome skin on them, instead of being 1 piece. I'd suggest stick on weights inside the wheel rather than hammer-on to lee this from happening again. Don't be surprised if your other wheels have this when you change tires and they have to take the weights off...

I was surprised, but the wheels are aluminum, and the chrome piece is actually a snap on chromed plastic cover. I discovered this when I was under the truck putting on my exhaust. The chrome center cap is plastic also.

I won't fault a man for being too picky about his truck....my only question -

If you were highly concerned about a crease from a wheel weight, how are you going to get an ATV in and out of the bed without passing out from anxiety? I can't see being a 'work-the-truck-that's-what-it's-made-for' and 'oh-my-god-the-wheel-weight-creased-the-rim' kind of guy at the same time...it would be too stressful for me!

I would have to agreed...............having been in the tire business for many years myself...................the wheel weight caused the damage. The first thing I do when I purchase a vehicle is to have the clip on wheel weights taken off the outside of the rim and then tape weight it behind the spokes and I still usually have "some" damage to my rims from the short time the clip on weights have been on the outside of the rim. That was true with both my 2010 Silverado LT and my 2011 Tahoe LS.

I see his point..................when we have nice things.......................we would like to keep them nice. If we do the damage..................oh well, we are to blame.................but if someone else does the damage..............then we are disappointed. The manufacturer should have never put wheel weights on the outside of the rim from the get-go. Having been in the tire business......................I know that that is the "best and the most proper" way to balance a rim and on steel rims, I can live with that but on a nice polished aluminum or chromed aluminum wheel.................that shouldn't happen. Even if taken off immediately (like I did on both my Tahoe and Silverado), there was already damage where the clip on wheel weight was on the outside of the rim. Will anyone ever notice but me, no probably not but when I spend my hard earned money on a vehicle as expensive as these are, I expect them to be perfect. American workmanship isn't the high quality standards that I expect it to be. Anyway, to summarize, I understand and agree with his frustration.

I don't think this was sarcasm. I do believe in holding a business responsible for any damages. But it's a truck, not a Ferrari. You'll get more damage than that just letting the wife drive it.

1. I started by directly indicating that I won't put you down for being too picky...my apologies if this was not sufficient to indicate I was not being a complete a$$hole.

2. I legitimately want to know how you could handle putting scratches all over the bed and using the truck for relatively hard work. The painstaking level of focus you demonstrated by looking at a minute crease in the wheel doesn't seem like it would merge well with a working truck.
