swapping 17" stock rims for 20" stock rims

Postby patriot_tech [OP] » Feb 27 2011, 12:19am

Hi everyone,

I have an 09 Sierra Z71 with the stock 17" wheels and tires on it. I managed to score a set of 2011 20" Sierra Denali rims and tires from my buddy who works at a GMC dealer (No they are not hot). Someone bought a Yukon Denali and opted for the $4000 22" upgrade. These rims have literally 9 miles on them complete with Bridgestone tires and TPMS.

I know I have to reprogram the TPMS to the new ones, but do I need to have the speedo recalibrated for the bigger rimsize. I have not put them on the truck yet because of the winter weather here in Ohio. He is saying their service dept will charge $100 to put the rims on and program everything. I plan to swap the sets for summer/winter and that will get expensive. Plus I generally shy away from the dealers once warranty is up.

If anyone could offer some insight, I would really appreciate. BTW, I plan to start modding the truck soon. All I have done thus far is a remote start and a stereo system.

Thanks!

Wheel size is not as critical as total wheel and tire diameter. If they are the same, you will not have a speedometer error.
$100 for the mount/dismount and TPMS is not bad, but you could probably get it cheaper at a tire store.

Aren't the back spacing a little different from truck to Yukon ? Not much, but with a load... I would say let dealer do all of it, cause if you have an initial problem, should be warrantied.
Thank you
