Tire opinions

Postby mlsontag [OP] » Oct 19 2011, 7:13pm

I am looking for new tires for my 2008 Silverado LT. I have the 20inch factory wheels with Goodyears on them. P275/55R20. Only have 36,000 miles on them and almost bald. Not happy at all with the wear of the Goodyears. Terrible in snow. I live in southern Indiana and have some snow and ice. No off road use. Anybody have any suggestions on a better tire? Thanks.

BF Goodrich Radial All Terrains are the best tires I've ever run on a vehicle. I've had 6 or 8 sets of them Jeep CJ's, a Ford F150, a 72 Chevy C10, and a Suburban. When my factory tires wear out on my new Silverado, BFG's will replace them.

Yeah BFG's are good.
Bridgestones Duelers are good tires too. There's several different treads you can choose from.
Nittos are a good tire too.

Bridgestone Dueler A/T & Firestone Destination A/T... I have the Destinations on my 09 right now, They are great tires. I took it home to WV in January and had no problem in the snow. They also have great "water" attributes also, I have yet to slide/spin the tires when I don't want to. All around great tire & no noise from the tires even at highway speeds!

Im looking for more of a sport tire but still want some traction in snow. Not looking for a 4 wheel drive look with the side of the tread.

I thought you may be looking for more of a sport tire after I responded. I ran a set of Dunlop GT Qualifiers on my 90 SS Chevy, and they did very well in snow up to about 4". I did put 3 large wood rounds in the bed for weight.

I really like the Firestone Destination A/T's that are on my truck. They don't look like an off road tire and are great in the snow/rain. I believe that there are about 30,000 miles on mine and there is still about 50% tread left. You should check out the reviews on tirerack.com for these and other tires. The Firestone's score very highly in all categories.
