I have been wondering about the sensor's battery life as well. I would think that they would only transmit while they are rolling and only at timed intervals. But, I could be and probably am wrong.

I never really thought about battery life. I drive enough miles that I am guessing mine will last the life of the tires. Then I'd have new ones put in when I get new tires.

Don't the sensors get destroyed when the tire is dismounted? I thought the dismount machine pretty much annihilates the sensor...?

I think whether or not the sensor gets trashed depends on the person doing the work, just like whether or not you rim lip gets scratched or my favorite, the lug holes get banged up because they don't give a crap about your wheels as they are over impacting your lugs on, they just care about your money.

I think Americas Tire adds a rebuild kit to them when they change tires.

Yes, they only send when rolling. On the ones I've seen, a regular tire mount shouldn't break the sensor. I suspect the American Tire "rebuild kit" is just a money grab. The same sensors don't have to be relearned or reset. They'll just work. And on the sensors I've seen on Honda's, the battery cannot be replaced. Don't know about the GM sensors, never looked that close.

This is from Americas tire, doesn't look like anything about a battery just seals and stems.

When replacing tires on a TPMS equipped vehicle, it is recommended to replace the components of the sensor that are susceptible to wear and corrosion from the elements. Our TPMS Rebuild Kits contain all the necessary components for replacement.
