Tires for Sierra w/ 20"wheels

Can anyone suggest a good all-terrain/off-road tire for an '08 Sierra with the stock 20" wheels? Don't really want to lift it, just want something that I could throw on and go. Pics of yours would also be appreciated!

GM recommends 20" wheels not go off road. I would look at replacing with different size if you going to take off road perhaps 18".

I put 20" DJR Ribelle PVD chrome finish 20x1 1/2 6 - 5 1/2 wheels on my Z with Nitto Grappler 275/55R20 tires. I have always liked Bridgestone tires and I liked the A/T's that came with my 18" stock aluminum wheels. When I went up to the 20" the OEM wheels came with Goodyear's and I didn't like how they looked. So I went with the Midwest Winter Wheel with the DJR PVD and put the Nitto Grapplers on. I really like it.

Going on the assumption that you are not planning on going off road, an A/T is almost a waste of money....but....keep this in mind:

It is better to have it and not need it, then to need it and not have it! Basically then, personal preference (with help from a knowledgeable community of tire owners for the best vehicles on earth) is all that matters. :D

If you want an A/T there are a lot of guys here with Nitto Grapplers. Also for good consideration, Bridgestone Duelers, or Bridgestone Duelers (Revo) are both very good tires.

If you are considering regular street tires, hopefully there is someone with more knowledge than myself.

Thanks for the replies.. it woulda helped if I had been more clear. I do go offroad pretty often to ride dirt bikes and what not but it's nothing too rough, just too much for a lower profile tire. I might take your advice 2011 and downsize the wheels, but I do like how those look chevygirl.

Hey thanks. I love them. Post pics when you decide. Oh, and the ride is as good as the Bridgestones were and that's all I had on my S-10 4x4.

Tires for Sierra w/ 20"wheels

Postby Crewcab » Jul 08 2011, 5:27pm

I'm in the same boat as AJ. With the 20's seems that tire size is limited for a off road type tire. With me driving into fields and logging trails in the woods, I am looking to get a different set of tires fit the fall/winter. I had BF AT's on my last truck and loved them. Seems like the only way to get a good tire is to change rims.

Waiting to see what you guys do here.

Re: Tires for Sierra w/ 20"wheels

I just picked up my new Silverado extended cab 4X4 with 20" wheels and those low profile tires. I immediately went to the Discount Tire website to see what I could go to for a more aggressive tire. I had a set of Falken Rocky Mountain AT tires on my last Jeep Wranglerand noticed that they are available in 20". They were great tires at under $200 each. They were good off road, in the rain and ice. The best thing is they were completely silent on the highway at any speed. I would definitely consider trying them on my new truck.

Good luck,

TxTC
