Smaller diameter rims... I like 'em

Vintage Rally Wheels on newer trucks...

Postby dpaul [OP] » Dec 20 2011, 1:43am

I have always liked these rally wheels. I am surprised I haven't seen this before. I did not do a search on this site, but I figured I that would not find many folks who like these vintage wheels. I think they look great... but then I am NOT a fan of large rims... really really not a fan. My 1970 Pontiac Formula 400 had factory 14's... yes 14's! The younger kids today seem to love the 20's and larger. Times change, styles change, but my tastes have NOT changed... call me old (born in mid 60's).

I grew up with a subscription to "CARtoons" & I see vehicles today with tires that have almost no side walls and it takes me back to the magazine I used to read in the 70's.

This is only one man's opinion about rim size, and I know I am in the minority.

I think I will try to PhotoShop some silver Rally Wheels onto my 2011.

I am a fan of those wheels as well, however, the jury is still out with me on whether or not I like them on that year truck. It doesnt look bad, I guess just different.

You are not alone, i like the old Rally style rims like the ones pictured, but i picture them more on a late 80/early 90's style 2WD.
I remember those CARtoons magazines, used to love reading them, and the iron ons, and the How To Draw section.
It's funny i remember George Trosley because he did the Kras And Bernie cartoon in the mag and then years later while looking at a more "adult" magazine (AKA Penthouse) i seen he was doing adult cartoons for that magazine. lol

I think it looks good. I'm not a huge fan of overly large rims either. In my opinion, a 17" or 18" rim is perfect for trucks that have 33" or smaller tires. I can see a step up to 20's with 37" tires and maybe 35's, but 20" is pretty much my limit. I've seen a few 22's on lowered trucks that pulled it off, but overall, I think that rims over 20" typically look hideous.

lilmagoo1:
I should have clarified... that is not my truck. I found the image on the internet while searching for something else. I assume they are 15's.

I did check on the tires... they are about half price for the BFG's. There would be a bit more side wall roll in corners if I get the same 33's I have on my 17 inch rims currently.
