What's the biggest tires I can fit on my Sierra?

Postby Buzzzworthy [OP] » Dec 11 2012, 7:28pm

Hello everyone,

I'm a newbie here and was hoping for some help from anyone that knows about tires. What's biggest tire size I can fit on my 2013 GMC Sierra 2500HD 4X4 without adding any body lifts or leveling kits?

The car is currently fitted with LT265/70R18 tires, which is about 32.6" in diameter. From the looks of it, I think I can add 2.5" but I'm not sure how the width would factor in.

Any feedback on the matter would be great.

Hey Buzz, I put 295/65/18's on my 2012 2500hd. Plenty of room. Pretty sure a 295/70/18 would fit .

Thanx for the reply Stars...I just calculated your diameter to be around 33.1". a 295/70/18 tire would be around 34.26"...Do you think I can go for a 315/70/18 or a 325/65/18?

Without a lift or level kit, those 35's are going to rub.

So as long as I'm below 35" I should be fine?

It will be close with a 34 but looking at mine I have the room to go 34's. I did adjust my T-bars up 1 inch

Hi guys I'm new to your site. I've had my 2012 GMC Sierra 2500HD for a few months now. It came with the 17" tires and they look so tiny in the wheel wells. It's time to upgrade. I was reading this thread and am also trying to figure out what size I can put on without lifting for the time being. I also want to level the front end but have heard in doing so you sacrifice comfort in the ride. Is that true? I have seen leveling kits or also just tightening up the swing arms a bit? What brand of tires are you guys running and what are your likes / dislikes. I need to pick a brand. Any info is appreciated.

Thanks,
Dave

Dave,

Pretty new here myself.

I'm on my 5th GM 3/4 ton- latest is a 2012 crewcab.

This fall we bought a larger truck camper and needed more tire capacity. Bought 4 Nitto Dura Grapplers (highway tread) in the 285/75-17 size. 3970# capacity each.

My local shop owner has a late model 2500HD himself and knew how to get bigger tires to work. He slightly raised the front to level it and just had to pull the inner liner back a little (behind the front tires).

No rubbing.

Good luck with yours.

John

I'm not sure how relavent this is since you guys have 2500's. but on my 1500 with a 2.5 inch leveling kit i was able to run a 315-70-17 with no rubbing or trimming what so ever. I figure the leveling kit on my 1500 would be about stock hight for a 2500.

I was just browsing through this and was wondering the same about my '12 Silverado... What is a decent rim and tire set up that will not rub or require a lift or leveling kit (cant afford either but the stock tires are not up to par and the rims EHH)
Here is what I am looking for: Maybe the
Ultra 175 Rogue; Size 17x8, 18x8.5, 18x10
http://lesschwab.com/truck-suv-wheels.html
With either these; Open Country H/T; Wild Country XTX Sport (dont know the size)

anything will help
