I need to buy a socket for torquing the lug nuts on my 02 silverado & need to know the size. Looks like a 20mm

22mm, torqued to 140 ft/lbs.

22mm or 7/8 work fine. 7/8 is actually 22.25mm. Torque them to 140 lbs. each.

Be careful if you use the 7/8. A 12-point socket might slip and round off corners. a 7/8 6-point would probably be fine. They are actually metric; 22mm as stated.

Torque is a measurement of rotational force, usually measured in ft/lbs or Newton Meters.

Once a nut or bolt is seated against its opposing mating surface, in this case the lug nut against the wheel to hold it on the wheel hub, a certain amount of additional rotational force is applied to make sure that 1) it is tight, and 2) that it will not work itself loose and come off.

Torquing lug nuts is when you tighten the nut to a predetermined tightness (torque). You use a tool called a torque wrench to accomplish this or a torque stick that attaches to am impact tool. Also when tightening the nut when you achieve the predetermined tightness the wrench will make a click sound to let you know you are there. Hope this helps.
