What size tires will fit on my stock 17" rims?

What size tires will fit on my stock 17" rims?

Postby Motodeficient [OP] » Nov 30 2012, 7:57pm

I have regular 17" chevy wheels with 245/70/17 tires. I am looking at gettiing a used set of studded snows to put on it for the winter. Will 265/70/17s fit on the stock rims?

One thing thatI don't know is if it's a4WD or a 2WD >>> a 2WD truck may require some trimming ? and where do you live that you think you need Studs ???

Its a 2WD 09 silverado, but its got a 2" leveling kit.

I live in Maine. I need studs.:)

Of course it would be best if i bought a 4WD truck instead, but the same exact truck but with 4WD was $5-6k more, and more than I wanted to spend. Instead opted for a newer, lower mileage 2WD truck over an older, higher mileage 4WD truck. I've driven in enough snow and ice over the years that I can manage with a 2WD with a little weight in the back and some studded tires.

OK your Levelling kit will help when turning on the front and >>>> I guess Maine gets it share of Ice (freezing rain) so studs may be necessary But they don't help much in snow >>> I lived in New Bunswick and now in Nova Scotia and havn't used studded tires since I had them on a 66 pontiac lol It was a company car>

Yeah I know they don't do anything in the snow. I live a mile down a private dirt road that isn't maintained by the town and thus doesn't get any treatment put on it. It just gets plowed and thats it. Turns to a sheet of glare ice every winter.
