Wheel Spacer Debate

Postby Renegade [OP] » Jun 17 2012, 3:37pm

Okay, I am thinking about getting some wheel spacers and wanted to some opinions since there seems to be some controversy over the subject. I have installed a 2" level lift and 285/65/18's with some Bushwhacker fender flares. In the current configuration the tires rub slightly when turned to the max and they appear to sit to far back since the fender flares come 2" more. I am thinking with wheel spacers, I will fix two problems, but don't want to go to extreme. I am thinking about 1/2" or 1" spacer which also won't put to much extra stress on the bearings or create negative whatever that was in the other post. Anyway, here is what I am looking at:

ReadyLIFT GM 1500 1/2" Billet Wheel Spacers

ReadyLift offers model specific wheel spacers designed for 07-UP Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra 1500 6-lug trucks and SUVs with the ReadyLIFT 4" SST Lift Kit. These 1/2" quality spacers are precision CNC-machined from 6061-T6 billet aluminum for maximum strength and longevity and are HUB Centric. The ReadyLift 15-3485 wheel spacers are designed for use with the ReadyLIFT 69-3485, 69-3285, 69-3495 and 69-3295 4" SST Lift Kit when running the factory wheels and tires. Wheel spacers are required when using the factory GM wheels and the 4" kit to properly space the factory wheel away from the suspension. If you intend on using the factory wheels and tires with your 4" Lift Kit, these wheel spacers are required to be used in order to maintain the product warranty of the lift kit. Works with both factory aluminum and steel wheels.

Each wheel spacer is both hub centric and wheel centric to insure the absolute perfect fit with your hub and wheel. You will not find a stronger wheel spacer in this size anywhere on the market. When installed the 15-3485 wheel spacer will place the outer wheel lip in line with the fender. The wheels WILL NOT stick out using this spacer.

ok so I think you are fine with some wheel spacers... there is another guy on here with a 3.5" RC lift and has the 7/8" wheel spacers on his, since he is using factory 18" rims he doesnt need to cut the studs because the rims are designed with holes in the back of the rim which allows room for the extra part of studs that stick out from wheel spacers go threw and are fine... other wise a 1 1/2" wheel spacer will be to the limits where you will need to cut off the tip of the studs where there isnt any thread if you go that route.. id say you are fine and to go for it.

I ran adapter/spacers on my s10 and never had any issues, 1.5" by the way with the stock rims. I don't really care for your typical spacers as you just sandwhich a piece of metal between the wheel and hub. But the adapter style that bolt on and then bolt the wheel to aren't bad IMO if you get a quality set.

By the way, I have 18" KMC XD Monster wheels. I am thinking that maybe 1" is to much and the front will stick out some. So are the 1/2 spacers from Ready Lift okay. They don't have the studs. I think they just sandwhich behind the wheel and between the hub. You just have 1/2 less stud sticking out the other side. They bolt through, so it is just like part of the wheel and I can't see where that would be bad at 1/2 an inch unless I am not understanding. Also, what brand were the 7/8" ones the other guy was using?

Added 7/8" wheel spacers to my RC 3.5" lift

here is the thread so you can see before and after as well as where he bought the kit from its a ready lift kit but needs to be used on a stock rim...

i think 1/2" will be fine but the thing with that is you have to guarntee at least 6-8 full turns on your lug nuts to even be legal to drive on the road.. so you can try them let me know and then ill buy some 2 because im thinking about 1 1/2" so i have a good secure fit

I got the spacers. Cost me $65 with installation at my local tire shop. They are 1/2" and stainless that just sandwich between with just the holes. The guy at the shop even ordered some special lug nuts that are supposed to grip better or something like that. Anyway, had 9 turns once they were on, so was well past legal. Have had them on almost a week now and no problems. Even went back at the shops request to make sure they were tight after a few days. Here are some pics, but will take some better ones soon.

Logically, if your tires rub inside the wheel well, and you add spacers, they will rub a little further toward the outside. It ain't rocket science boys.

What boggles me is that you are running stock size tires with a 2" leveling kit and you say that they rub. Hmmm...I am running 295/65/18s with a 2" leveling kit and they only rub when I do something stupid, such as bump up a curb while turning.

My bad on the second part, but still, if they rub on the inside of the wheel well, adding spacers will still allow the rub. This new spot may be further out toward or at the metal...that would be worse than the plastic.
