So I definitely understand the calculations. Is there a general rule of thumb for how much space should remain when turning under normal conditions to prevent any type rubbing? I took it from the post that 1/2 isn't enough.

Well, that's the kinda question you have to ask yourself. Let me elaborate just a tad bit. Within the writeup, I specified that will eventually have to turn. I also showed the mutated fish (that could be a rock in some strange world). Turning is one thing, going on rough terrain is another, but turning while on rough terrain is a whole nuther monster. If you are the kind of person that never goes off road, or may not occasionally jump a curb for isolated parking at the mall during the holiday seasons, than I'd try and give it at least 1". On the other hand, if you are like me...and constantly put your truck to the test; I would really consider either a little extra lift, or smaller tires.

Super Write-Up...

More vehicle forums should be so informative.

I would like to throw this in the ring as well though: http://www.rimsntires.com/specs.jsp

This tool gives a better visualization to the entire picture. It least it does for me. Check it out.

Hope it helps, Jim

I think you will have to consult the same with a good tire installer or tire dealer because they knows what works best and fits best.

Re: Will this Fit? Tire Sizing and Wheel Spacing Explained

Postby Sask 06 Sierra » May 23 2012, 4:16am

I know you will laugh I have a stock height 06 Sierra running 265/70 r17 tires on my truck, wheels as i can find are 7.5 wide. Cooper stt in same size are 31.9 diameter and rim ranges diameter is 7 - 8.5. I would like to put the 33 by 12.5 tires on. Diameter is 32.76. But rim width recommended is 8.5 - 11. I know a guy that did it with an offset rim 7.5 wide but just wondering if anyone has done it and if I just going to wreck tires. Please laugh but any advise is better than non thanks
