Winter tire season almost here

Postby Salsa [OP] » Nov 02 2011, 7:30pm

Soon I'll have to swap the 20" chrome wheels for the uglier 17" steelies I got from my GMC dealer... not sure how they will look (being grey) but I know they won't look as good as my 20". But I had trouble justifying the $$$ required for 20" winter tires.

Finally ended up buying Blizzak DM-V1 at Costco... hope I am not disappointed with my purchase, have always ran Toyo Observe Open Country in the past!

I just noticed that the wheels my dealer sold me for winter are actually the base 17" wheels...

Anyone have an idea how much the center hubs could go for? I have the wheels without the hubs, but would like to get them to complete the look...

My mechanic told me they cost a pretty penny. Maybe you can get a deal on Craigslist?

I'll check the used market (eBay and such), cause that's what I think also,....dealers like to charge high on these things!

My sister's truck has those 17" wheels on it and those caps must cost a lot more than some want to spend on them because someone stole all of them off her truck. I found that you can get them used for right around $100 a set on ebay.

Installed my winter wheels last weekend, decided to not get the center hubcaps... they cost a fortune, plus it requires open ended nuts... which I prefer not using.

I bought myself a full set of new closed end chromed nuts and it will do the job for the winter

Hi Salsa, and I feel your pain!!!

I put on my 17" "Steelies" with Firestone Winterforce tires - today!!! Off go the Chrome 20" with Hankook Ventus ST tires for a winter slumber...

My steelies look like yours, but with the Chevy logo center cap... ugh!!! I painted them to spruce them up... Chrome hub cap skins will be in the future, when the steel gets beyond paint and repair!

Hope winter will be short here Michigan! :-)

As of now ours has been...usually we have snow starting mid-Nov to early December...but we are still on grass this year..

I put them on because the law says winter tires from Dec 15 to March 15 here!

Really??? You have a law that states when you "have to" put on snow tires... That's Canada, I guess... We have no laws like that in Michigan...

We've had no snow to speak of. What we did get, was gone the next day...

But I'm ready, :-)
