4200 miles brake life 36% front 59% rear

Postby billyandthejets [OP] » Aug 09 2019, 8:07pm

2019 Silverado RST 4200 miles brake life monitor says 36% front 59% rear I have never been tough on brakes. Any thoughts? Can I check the pads myself? Thanks. Billy

Pull your wheels off and look at then. YouTube how to check brake pad wear.

Or take it to the dealer. If they are really that worn there is an issue. Or the fancy new indicator isn’t working correctly.

Sounds like a malfunction unless the 4200 miles were racing on the Nurburgring!

My 2019 6.2L Z71 has 1500 miles and says 84% for front and 91% in the back and I have had the truck 2.5 weeks. . I am not going to worry about it. It just sounds like a profit deal to get you in there so they can make more money.

Take it back to dealer and they will fix the sensor. Neighbor had his brake percentage in the low teens.

Same issue. I have a 2019 and my percentage is 30% life remaining on the front brakes at 6,000 miles. I don't buy that.

I figure I'll rely on the same method I did before we had all these fancy, newfangled information screens. When it starts squeaking, I'll do something about it.

it kills me to see ya'll with an obvious warranty issue - regardless if its a sensor or an actual pad issue - and 'meh no worries'

if i'd just signed on the dotted line for a >$50,000 *ANYTHING* and was getting **** like that weeks after i bought it i'd be back at the dealer faster than i could fart.

but i guess ya'll do you. *smh*

I don't think it's an obvious warranty issue. I think it's possible that the brake pad sensors are simply just not terribly accurate.

However, my truck is my daily driver and the only vehicle that I own. My dealership is 30 miles away. It's an inconvenience to take my truck to the dealer for service. If it's something that affects the performance of the truck, you're dang right I'll take it. But the percentage being lower than I think it should on the brake pads? Not a big deal TO ME. Your mileage may vary.

any sensor thats "not terribly accurate" and giving bad information on a brand new truck is a warranty issue IMHO. no less before its had its tires rotated. thats kind of the classic definition of a warranty issue.

and yea, with an hour round trip, i can see that being inconvenient and likely to put it more to the back burner on the priority list.

but you're one of several people who kinda gave it a "meh" response, and i wasnt picking on anyone specifically.

just noting that if i was driving a vehicle that new with an obvious flaw, i would want it corrected ASAP.

I would figure you'd get at least 50k especially if you aren't hard on the brakes..

A question you or someone else may be able to answer though.. are the pads on the RST a performance pad that wears quicker?

Either way something seems weird, I would just pull the tire off and visually inspect myself. if the pads are sure enough as low as indicated the dealer would be taking a look because I wouldn't want to replace my pads every other oil change.
