Lights on my dash

Postby CTVANOVER [OP] » Sep 13 2020, 6:06pm

I broke a brake line and had it repaired at a Meinke. They couldn't get the ABS Module to flush itself. Ever since then the ABS and Brake light stays on. Also I have a "Service Brakes Soon" where the mileage is. I took it to a different mechanic to get it checked out and he said that it shows the rear speed senor is bad but when he went to check it out, he couldn't find one on the back of my truck anywhere.

I just replaced all 4 calipers, rotors, and pads. Anybody have any ideas? Any and all help will be greatly appreciated!

I may be wrong, but www.gmpartsdirect.com only shows wheel speed sensors up front.
You need to get the ABS module bled correctly before you go any further.

Start with a little research...

For many ABS systems, the ABS module needs to be run through a set of steps to flip each of the valves correctly. I'm not sure if these trucks require running the ABS valve in a certain sequence.

For those vehicles, stomp and squirt bleeding won't get the ABS valves. Even a pressure bleed often won't do it. Mieneke probably has a pressure bleeder, they "should" have ABS control tools. The dealer is an option, probably a $200 option.

But if Mieneke did a pressure bleed, stomp and squirt in your driveway probably won't fix it. If Mieneke only did stomp and squirt, you need a new mechanic.

This is rarely a problem on a "normal" brake job which does not crack the system (shoes/pads/rotors/drums). Stomp and squirt can do a good fluid flush in the driveway. This is usually OK with caliper/piston replacements too, as the air is just at the system corners. But you lost a brake line, and likely got air way up in the system.
