Parking Brake

Postby plumbum [OP] » Apr 08 2021, 12:20am

I have 2012 Chev 2500 and I'm having difficulties with my parking brake. Mine is one of those "Miracles of Engineering", that require you to push to set ,then push further down to release. It has failed once on me while in my driveway and last time was deep in the bush.Fortunately I was ale to pry off the spring. Has anyone else had their brake fail in this manner?

We've had a bunch of GM's, with that parking brake arrangement, that were usually parked in locations where it was used. Never had an issue with any of them.

Geeze never had to use E brake I guess I should get familiar with this engineering nightmare before I get stuck one day. Doesn't sound good to even try at this point?

What exactly failed? Something at the wheel, the pedal mechanism?

Ya these brake systems do not well thought out ,in my opinion. For those that have never had one,the idea is very simple. To set the brake, simply push on the pedal , so far so good. When you want to release the brake, you simply push it down a little more.In theory, it should release, unless this complicated apparatus fails, now you are screwed. I really miss the good old days when you had a handle attached to a cable that would release the brake. the old K.I.S.S. principal [ Keep It Simple Stupid} :-x :-x
