Sounds like a different problem

Any thoughts on what my issue could be? Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated

So I think I have found the cuplrit to my problem.

Just on a whim I removed the driver side rear brake drum, when I went to remove it, I couldn't get the brake drum off. It was loose but not loose enough to come off, the brake shoes were squeezed tight against the brake drum itself. I ended up using two forcing bolts in the threaded holes in the drum itself and got the drum off, a whole ton of brake dust came out. My shoes were worn pretty good but still have life in them, so I backed off the adjuster screw so that my drum fit back on without making contact. I reassembled everything and bam, the squeal was gone!

I never would have imagined that this was the issue, especially when only turning left. Now if I just had the money I had spent on all the front brake components I could buy new rear shoes and drums.

I hope this helps you guys out, NEVER would I have imagined that it was the rear brakes causing this sound.

Was very excited to hear you found the issue until you said drum brakes... I’ve got an 03 1500hd 2wd w/ 160k doing the same thing but disc brakes. Noise is only turning left. From the rear and sounds like an old rusty gate hinge. Loudest during slow maneuvering like in gas stations and parking lots. Gets a lot of unwanted attention. Thought it might be rear diff related so I inspected and changed out the old fluid. Seemed like it got hair better but who knows I might be going crazy with this one. Any chance the clutches can cause this? This is my first experience with the Eaton diff.

If you have the G80 locking rear-end, there are no clutches. It's a mechanical locker, not a limited slip. If you have an aftermarket clutch-type posi installed, the clutches can chatter unless you put in posi additive. Don't add that to the G80.
Take a look at your rotors. Do you have a crusty 'lip' on the rotors where the pads don't touch the edge? I had this on my '00 Silverado. Turned the rotors to get rid of that lip and the noise went away.

Thanks for the info. I went to look at my rotors/shields and found one of my brand new hubs had a bad bearing. I believe it was binding at full lock causing the rusty gate hinge noise. Warranty replacement later and no more noise. Just FYI for anyone else out there chasing their tale. Might be a similar issue.

I am having a very similar issue with a squeaking noise when turning, did the OP figure out the problem?
