Defeat DRL addition to former US truck

Defeat DRL addition to former US truck

Postby kenora [OP] » Jan 17 2020, 4:25pm

I'm adding a front hitch to my 2000 Sierra z71 5.3 4x4 in about a month.

Problem is...

With DRL the headlights illuminate the back of the plow blinding me when plowing at night... I know this from years of plowing with another truck.. in that case.. it was a plow truck only so I just pulled the fuse for the headlights and used a roof mounted led light bar to shoot over the plow...

In this case.. since the truck is on the road when not a plow truck I need to be able to turn the headlights on when going into town and off when plowing..

I'd like to do it without having to pull fuses.

Since the truck was imported from Indiana the last owner modified it somehow to turn on the headlights when the truck is on.

How do I defeat this? There is a box of some sort under the dash.. that may be the addition but ots got a ton of wires in and out and I dont want to fark it up..

Thanks

Paint the back of the plow with a matte finish or bedliner so it doesn't glare

Do you have a picture you can post of what this block under the dash looks like?

The headlights turn on when any power is applied, or just when it's dark enough outside? And dark enough, doesn't have to when you would turn them on. I believe the ambient light sensor controls that, as I have mine disabled so my headlights don't turn on unless I manually flip them on. It works, but it doesn't look like a pro job...and that doesn't bother me too much. The only downside is I also lose the perimeter lighting when I unlock the doors at night or early morning.

Any plow I have run (Arctic Western and Fisher) will switch your lights over to the headlights on the plow...its part of the wiring harness that you install with the plow. What kind of plow are you using?

What if you wired-in a toggle switch to interupt power to the headlights while you're plowing?
