07 1500 condenser guard

07 1500 condenser guard

Postby Fisherguy [OP] » Aug 21 2020, 4:40pm

The AC quit on my 07 1500, it needs a new condenser.
Just wondering if anyone has made some sorta guard or screen or something to put in front of it to protect it from getting hit by a rock again?
Or does someone make such a thing?
Thx

With a 13 year old truck, I wouldn't complain about having to replace the condenser. Are you sure it was a rock, and not perhaps a crack at a weld or vibration, or maybe even a bad hose, fitting or o-ring?

With any kind of "guard" as you say, you have to be really careful about restricting airflow, whether it be screen, mesh, or some other material.

I'm not sure exactly, I'll take a look at the old one when I pick it up.
The guy said it's quite common for this to happen where we live, winters are pretty harsh up here. I've had this truck less than a year and I'm not "complaining" about having to replace the condenser, I just don't want to be having to do this every year or 2 if there's something I can do to prevent it!

Understood....
Although where I live (central Texas,) we don't have harsh winters, it seems like every road in the State is under construction and/or repair and there's gravel trucks everywhere, in addition to the gravel country roads I often travel. I've never had that happen....Just lucky, I guess!

The condenser on my 2011 sprung a pinhole leak last year. Truck only had 13,000 miles on it and was protected by a billet grille I had in it at the time. I was told by the extended warranty company that this was quite common for these trucks.
