A/C blowing hot on one side

A/C blowing hot on one side

Postby jdwilson11 [OP] » Jun 09 2021, 7:06pm

I have the dual climate system and the passenger side blows cold air while the driver side blows warm/hot air. It seems to be fine until it gets very hot and humid out then that's when the drivers side loses the cool

So there's two issues it could be. Most common issues anyway.

Either the blend door motor has gone bad for the driver side or it's low on freon. I suspect low freon, when it gets low it will blow cooler air the closer the air is to the evap core and less cool the further away from the evap core. The evap core is on the passenger side.

You said it gets worse the hotter it is. The blend door motor doesn't care if it's hot or cool so I suspect freon over the motor.

Have the freon serviced and go from there.

Thanks. That's what I wasn't sure about. I didn't think freon since I was still getting cool on the passenger side but what you said makes sense now. Appreciate the help

It's a weird ass deal the first time you encounter it. I still remember the first time my mentor showed me low freon causing it to cool on the passenger side and not the driver side. It doesn't happen often but it absolutely does happen.

Good luck and let us know.

That just happened to my In-Law's car. Low Freon.

Freon was not the problem, am I looking at the door actuator now?

Be the next thing to try.

Did you do an evac and charge on it to make absolutely sure the freon level is correct? Were pressures checked and cooling fans all that jazz?

You use an ac evacuate and charge machine and recover the freon and weigh it and then put in the exact right amount. Freon is really tricky to get just right and if you just tried to just add some with a little can it's very likely the charge level is incorrect.

Can't guarantee that's your problem but it's almost impossible to get the charge right without recovering and weighing what goes back in.

Super easy to cause problems if you aren't really experienced in it.

Yup. Just took our 2019 CR-V into the dealer because same thing. Driver's side was blowing room temp air whereas passenger was cold. Dealer said there wasn't a leak but it was low. They topped it off and works good again now.
