Micro Fiber towels

How do you clean your detailing towels

Micro Fiber towels

Postby jake2250 [OP] » Sep 06 2019, 4:11am

Just wondering how you all clean your Micro Fiber towels? I bought a dozen Detailing towels. Threw them in the washer and hung them on the outside line to dry.
Now they lost there softness and the fibers don't seem so supple!
Did I miss something?

Microfiber towels will never again feel like they did before the first washing. Wash them separately from other towels or clothes using a normal washing machine detergent, cold water, no fabric softener, no bleach. Tumble dry low or hang to dry.

If your washer has the option, have them go through a second rinse cycle.

Quality microfiber will indeed retain it's softness, of cleaned and cared for properly.

Never wash them with anything else, just do a small load if needed.
If they have a lot of product on them, polish, wax, etc...pre rinse them with hot water in a sink first.
Use a good microfiber cleaner...I paid $22 I think, for a gallon of Chemical Guys micro wash, use anywhere from 3-5 caps full...more is not always better with any type of soap.
Use hot water, and the warmest rinse you can, 2nd rinse is ok, but will usually be cold.
They can be dried in a dryer, extra low heat, NO dryer sheets! Very important. Same for wash, no softener there either.

Once dry, take them out and fold them up, keep them in a sealed bag or container. I use a $8 gray plastic tub to store mine. Some of them are 4 years old, and they are still soft.

I buy a bag whenever they are on sale. a $20 bag can last me a good chunk of the year. They go from detailing clothes to garage clean up rags to the garbage.

Yes, anyone can google for a link. I trust my methods too. Wash separate from other towels or clothes. Use All Free and Clear detergent, pre soak if really dirty, use cool wash, dry on low (heat is the enemy of synthetic microfibers) no bleach or fabric softeners.

I do the exact same thing and it is a tried and true method I can vouch for (because everyone should always trust a person on the internet they don't know when they say they can be trusted)

thats how i roll with them. buy the cheap-o bulk packs for like 40 or 50 cents per.... toss em in with the regular laundry, find them in whatever sleeve or pants leg they hid in during the wash, and when they're fubar toss em for new ones.

although i'm all for pre-rinsing them if they're extra schmooey with plain ole hot water.

they're meant to be disposable, not an heirloom item you're gonna pass down to the grandkids.
