Paint problems

Paint problems

Postby chevyguy123 [OP] » Mar 19 2019, 3:14am

Hey guys, so the other day i was looking at my 18 Silverado midnite edition and i noticed a lot of paint chips on the front bumper. I have no clue as to how they got there considering i havent followed a salt or gravel truck and havent been on any gravel roads. I must have counted 20+ chips on the bumper. Also i noticed alot of white dots on the paint. I washed the truck thinking the dots would come off but that didnt help. I will be bringing the truck to the dealer and see what they can do. I will attach a picture of the white dots. Has anybody ran into these issues before?

Those white dots look like tree pitch or similar. I park my truck outside and have a few similar spots in my clear coat.

Is there a way to get rid of that?

Try a clay bar to get rid of the white spots...As for the chips in the front bumper.....it's one of the reasons I prefer chrome. It doesn't have to be salt or gravel as you mentioned. It can be small pebbles being kicked up from cars in front of you, or even bugs. "Bug juice" from bugs that hit your front end and remain on the paint is very caustic, and can cause the paint to lift and/ or chip. In the. Spring and Summer months, and actually on warm days or after driving at night I try to wipe the front end down. I also use Griots bug and smudge remover.

Don't tailgate the guy in front of you if you don't want rock chips. That's why you're getting them. I learned that on my last Z71. That's why I only go for chrome from now on. Chrome looks better anyways
I don't tailgate. I hate rock chips.
Cars kick up to much **** on the road.
Pisses me off when someone cuts in front of me and kicks up a bunch of rocks.

Appears to be in clear coat, so clay bar may work. I'm planning on a full detail this summer. As far as rock chips..not much you can do, except buy touch up paint.

Use a toothpick to apply. That is an old trick from my car lot days. It keeps from getting too much paint and creating a glob of paint. Use just enough to cover the chip. Then wax once it dries up for a day.

You may want to consider clear film cover, but make sure you buy quality stuff or it'll look like crap. Paint on these trucks is really thin.

I have the LTZ painted everything, so I feel your pain. I had one chip my roof..no idea where it came from, just heard it. Found it while washing and waxing.

Thank you guys for all of the input, i spoke with the service manager today and he looked at the bumper and they are going to warranty the paint job. As soon as thats taken care of i will be bringing the truck to a detail shop that my buddy owns to have them put on the clear protective film. As far as the white spots i will take care of that myself

You have a good dealer. I took mine in for the same thing and they basically told me, rock chips, nothing they can do pound sand.
