Waxes N Coatings

Waxes N Coatings

Postby John Buffum [OP] » Sep 06 2020, 12:51pm

I am considering a $500 Simonize "ceramic" coat job on my 2002 Silverado 1500. Warranted 2 years. Florida sun has no mercy. Here, your paint goes bye-bye if left outside.

-What about F11/Topcoat?
-Other coatings?

What's a good engine room detailer?

Love my truck. 5.3L. New brake and fuel lines. New brakes. The parking brake now works! New tires. New cap. XM radio. Dash cam. Back up camera. New carpet (to be installed) 8" subwoofer. Radio with video screen. New fog lights (to be delivered) Class III hitch, well used. CB radio.

Considering DIY front "hidden winch" bumper. 3/16", 1/8", and 1/4" steel. Cardboard mockup, then build. Miller 210 welder.

Any suggestions for additional toys n goodies?

After doing some work on mine, I cleaned it with degreaser and sprayed it off. Dried it and used Meguiars Trim Restorer on all the black plastics and hoses.

I have been using F11/topcoat, really happy with the product. I'm in the SoCal sun, so I know your pain. the sun is no joke on paint jobs.

How to Clean Your Engine Compartment

After a good cleaning, I spray everything under the hood with Meguire's Black Restorer spray. Holds up pretty well.

Thanks all for the info.

I'm going ahead with the Simonize job. Saw on another thread that $500 is a GREAT price. I'm goin' for it.

I'll get the Meguiars stuff. Autozone has it.

BTW Any suggestions for additional toys n goodies?

The list of what is possible to add to your truck is too long to even start. If you go through build threads or other stand alone ones, you will get lots of ideas. I have done a number of things for functionality. Like Bull rings in the bed, rear bumper step from Amp Research, lighting mods, head unit with torque display and dash cam...i could go on and on. Just need to find out what works for you and what you are wanting to do with your truck and what budget you have.

Coating depends on hardness factor. The harder it cures the higher the price.

But there’s virtually no value in a coating without the proper paint correction which takes time and expertise. That’s what you pay for. Anyone can apply Si02/Ti02.

Here are a few pix. Couldn't go topside because of balance issues.

The detail shop did a great job!
