If I would have known that it didn't I would have bought another 5.3. Oh well I only tow a couple times a year.

Yep- this is the ONLY reason I traded the 4.3 in for a 5.3. The Chevy dealer told me they'd void my warranty if I put an external cooler on it, so I bought a GMC with one.

That has got to be one of the best examples of dealership incompetence. An oil cooler comes as an option yet if you put one one it voids the warranty? No, they are just fishing for excuses to void warranties.

It's not an option on the 4.3s, or at least it wasn't last year.

I asked them to put a GM one on, and then an aftermarket when they said there weren't any.

IIRC my transmission temp got up to 240 or so on some "worse case scenario" tows (winding hilly roads) and they said that was OK due to new secret sauce synthetic transmission fluid.

That may be, but I'm old school and a truck has an external transmission cooler in my world. The things only cost a nickel, no clue why they wouldn't have them.

Anyway, hopefully they see my posts on the subject here and elsewhere. I bought a whole new truck over them not having an external cooler, they're lucky I stuck GM.

Kinda same for me in some ways. There was not a lot about the 2013 1500 LT Z71 5.3 that I was fond of, so I got rid of it and got a 2015 2500HD LT Z71 6.0L. To say I am way happier with this one than the previous one is an understatement. But similar thoughts... they were lucky I stuck with GM.

When it comes to towing my 5100 lb boat with my 2014 4.3 versus my old 2008 5.3 the only difference I can tell is that I get 13.2 MPG with the 2014 versus 10.8 with the 2008. I think if my 2008 had the 6 speed transmission it would be a better comparison. I can tell you with out a doubt that when it comes to towing below 2k RPM's the 4.3 has a better low end. I run pure gas in my truck same as my boat. The fuel mileage is the best on E0, IMHO

Probably right on E0 delivering best mpg. I know what I usually get mpg wise on various gas blends. I look at pump price, factor in the mpg I get on different blends, then fill up with what gives me lowest cost per mile.
