New trucks have “drive mode” selectors. So the throttle isn’t quite as bad depending on the mode

I am driving a 2019 Z71 loaner while my '18 is in for warranty repair. The '19 accelerates without down shifting and it is immediate. My 2018 is sluggish and hunts for a gear or 2.

Several factors play here....
Lighter truck
Better transmission gearing
Better throtttle mapping
Also placebo effect driving a new vs used as the used has build up, wear, etc.

I have driven the new 19 it is nice but the 5.3 engine is pretty similar in behavior.

Agreed .. when I drove a ‘19 LT Trail Boss as a loaner for a day, I found it drove lighter and felt more agile than my ‘18. With that said, I didn’t find it all that “faster” off the line.
Thinking it’s because my ‘18 has the 8spd (eAssist) so similar gearing. Honestly, I actually preferred the heavier steering of my ‘18 compared to the new 19s. All subjective I guess...
