I'm new to this forum. This is my first post.
I see where guys are using a V4 Mode Disabler.
Is this something I should look into? Will I get better gas mileage by disabling the V4 mode?
I just bought this truck and this is the first I've heard about it. Sorry if I'm being redundant.

Will not improve or decrease mpg. But will make your engine run smoother and reduce the risk of afm failure and oil consumption.

There are literally hundreds and hundreds of posts on this site about AFM and it's associated failures and the ways to deal with it before and/or after problems arise.

You can disable AFM with a Range device or a Tuner. This is probably the most widely recommended Tuner on this site and is worth every penny:

2018 Silverado Z71 4x4 5.3L Bought in Oct 2018 and only have 800 miles on it. This is weekend driver only for me and mostly city driving so I would normally manual shift to 5th and leave it there so it would not go into v4 mode. I think since new only about 100 miles in v4 mode.

Last week ordered a Range AFM Disabler from Range. Use it for the first time this weekend and it performed as advertised. No issues at all and as a matter of fact I think the truck ran better.

Reason for getting the Range as apposed to a full tune is because being a weekend use only till I retire in 4 years I will run out the power train warranty in time rather than miles.

SO far so good. This weekend going to install my Elite Catch Can.

My MPG's got worse when i disabled the AFM.

it depends...

before I put my lift and bigger tires on, with easy driving I could repeatedly get 25-28 mpg for a 50 mile average (dic readout). i would be in v4 mode well over 90% of the time. deactivating it then would make a more noticeable impact compared to now with a mild lift and tires where i am in v4 mode MUCH less of the time.

My MPG also dropped after the range device. About 1mpg overall

The general consensus is that you take a 10% hit. Good or bad GM didn't install AFM for zero results. In V4 mode you will get better mpg's-especially at 70mph or below at constant cruising-on the highway.

I think I the 2014+ trucks it makes a more significant difference. In the NNBS trucks like mine I think the AFM was much less refined and didn’t make such a difference. I noticed almost no difference when I disabled mine.

I have had two 2014+ trucks and one nnbs. Ran both with afm bone stock. And turned afm off still stock and lost nothing. If you live on 100% flat land than maybe.

But still not worth keeping it on for the enhanced risks

And if you want to use the whole gm designed it and implemented it so therefor it must work argument.

Gm did it to show they are trying. On a base model 2wd truck on a rolling road in a wind tunnel I’m sure it does save a little. In the real world no, almost everyone on here will tell you that.

Gm also totally re designed the 2019s for “more mpg” and it still gets basically the same mpg as the out going model.
