Eliminate PCV system completely....

Eliminate PCV system completely....

Postby VMS [OP] » Jan 09 2019, 7:22pm

HI everyone,

This is a question more out of curiosity than anything... I am not looking to do this but it has piqued my curiosity the amount of oil that seems to be going back into these intakes is quite large over time

With this PCV system coking up our intakes, what would prevent (besides the legality issues from the EPA) from just running tube from the PCV valve down below the engine and frame, and putting a breather filter on the intake, and also doing this same tube down from the passenger side valve cover and capping off the intake port on the air intake? Wouldn't this eliminate the coking issue even if this ran to a catch can and then vented to the atmosphere so we aren't greasing up our roadways

Would this set off some sort of engine code?

The reason I ask is coming from a Diesel, knowing all of the deletes that take place there with EGR, DPF, NOx, etc. this modification seems to be on the same track as those... Granted not EPA legal, but could it be done this way?

Thanks
Steve

You can do that. You'd want to plug the port on the intake so you don't get a vacuum leak. Then you could put those old school filters on the valve cover ports or get a clean side separator.

Then vent the crank vent to the ground. Known as a road draft tube. You could run a can or filter as well as make just a tube.

Just be aware, with the loss of negative pressure inside the engine the seals are going to start leaking something aweful.

I think OEM's did away with those type of systems in the 50's.

I just had done exactly what Trax described when I had my new intake horn installed on my duramax. Just rerouted the PCV hose straight down and attached to the frame
