Max speed reduced...Possible cause?

Peddle to the floor, I'm limited to 85

Max speed reduced...Possible cause?

Postby Aerovette [OP] » Jul 28 2020, 4:28pm

2015 5.3 6 spd. 96,000 miles and repeated P0307 codes cleared (no lifter tick). After market cat-back MBRP exhaust. No other modifications.

I am able to get to 96-98 mph at the top end, but more than once, and currently, when I hold my foot to the floor to pass, it kicks down in to passing gear, picks up speed and at 85mph, falls off. It will hold 84-85 but is shifts up into 6th and that's all it will do from there on. 2100 rpms and 85mph.

A couple of times I pulled over, shut it off and restarted and could get up to 96 again. The last two days, that hasn't worked. I have no codes when this is happening. I bought it in January and this is the fourth or fifth time this has happened. All random.

Any ideas? Someone said it was my accelerator, but that's a broad statement. Anything specific I should focus on?

You could treat this as a blessing in disguise since the speed limit on Texas toll ways is 85.

I'll toss in that there is an issue with the transmission, but I'm no mechanic.

Actually, Vinny, they've reduced it to 80 in many places because there were too many accidents involving Feral Hogs at night, especially on the toll road that goes from North Austin to just east of San Antonio.
Also, if you are unable to go over 85, how would you do the WOT Log for Lew? I topped out at 114! LOL!!!

I don't take mechanical issues as a blessing ever, actually.

Last night, it ran like a scalded rabbit. This morning, the problem came back.
