They are not needed.

I'm old school and use Marvel's Mystery Oil (MMO). However, in the last 20 years (the time I've been using synthetic oils), I only top off the crankcase (never more than 1/2 quart) with MMO when I'm 500-1000 miles before an oil change. With today's modern oils (dino and synthetic), it's probably overkill. But as I said, I'm old school and it's hard to break old habits. I've never had an oil-related problem in any of my vehicles in all the years (50) I've been driving.

My Dad, who was in the business for 60 years, always told me to make sure the can had the word miracle on it. Because if it worked it would be a miracle...

Save your money and put it toward a catch can.

No additives needed. Just use good oil and filter and you're good to go. Which oil/filter is good is yet another fun topic to discuss...

I hear that additives can halp cause premature catalytic converter failure (rumor). Also detergents can soften up your seals and make your oil leak onto your driveway.

I always love reading these types of threads. Virtually everyone has a different opinion! Use this, use that, use nothing, and a little bit of something else in between.

I change my oil/filter frequently, and I often do as MacQ (above) does, which is add some MMO shortly before scheduled oil/filter change. I used big doses of MMO to flush my engine shortly after I bought my current truck, and I gotta tell ya, the MMO is a really good flusher.

I might have to give that a try. Just bought a 2016 with 99,000 on it. Want it to last me a long while. What mileage interval do you change oil at? You obviously don't go by what is preset in the vehicle.

And that's why we use a good quality oil in the first place. So we don't have to do flushes.
