Oil Consumption fixed with the Eco tech 3

Oil Consumption fixed with the Eco tech 3

Postby Hitch [OP] » Jun 08 2014, 10:03pm

It would seem that GM has finally fixed the oil consumption issues from the previous eco tech engines.
I have 6600 miles on my 5.3L and it has not used a drop of oil. The dipstick is still at the full mark.

It would be great if that's the case! I dont think a lot of the oil consumption issues showed up on the previous generation till much later.

Hope you didn't jinx it now! :)

For the record I haven't used a drop of oil on my 13 with 10,000km (6000mi) LOL

I'm at 7,300 miles and no oil consumption but it will take many more miles for me to be convinced the oil consumption is a thing of the past.

Maybe I'm just reaching here but my expectations would be 100k or more.
Guess I'm just spoiled of the two 5.7L's I had in my previous Chevys...

My 2013 non Eco Tech still doesn't use any oil either during the entire OLM cycle. Did disable the AFM and put on a PCV catch can early on, so maybe that gave me an edge. We'll see. I sure hope for those that are buying the newer stuff the oil consumption issue is just an interesting side note in history.

I keep hearing about oil consumption issues and was wondering what the issue is ? Is it the afm that is doing this ? My uncle has a 2012 sierra with 18000 miles on it and hasn't burned a drop , maybe he is lucky ?

So I did a search and the oil issue is just like the early Lbz Diesel engines with the riveted or non riveted head gasket ? Some had early failures and some are still going with well over 250k on them basically luck of the draw , but from what I'm seeing is that for every one truck that uses oil there are 10 that don't . Could be worse , could be a triton engine blowing a spark plug out of the head or breaking off in the head

So, has anyone with higher miles ( 60,000 or more ) noticed any oil cumsumption yet? I have a 2009 silverado that uses oil like crazy and I am thinking of trading it in on a 2014 or 2015. But, only if the issue is resolved
