2014 silverado 3rd brake light not working

Postby Philski14 [OP] » Sep 21 2020, 11:51pm

Hey all, I have a 2014 silverado LT and the 3rd brake light doesnt work. So far I've replaced the bulb, and the 10A CHMSL fuse and still nothing. Checked at the plug for the bulb with voltmeter and nothing, checked at the fuse box and not getting any voltage there either. Any ideas where to go from there? Without the wiring diagram it's tough to troubleshoot. Thanks in advance

Most likely it is the brake light switch. It is just above the brake pedal and it has some internal contacts that can get tarnished (like points used to do on older vehicles). It is a fairly low cost part (~$15) and most of us just replace it vs trying to clean them. I did open mine up to have a look at it out of curiosity when I had mine go out. The typical tell tale sign is that the cruise control stops working.

Great info, thanks! Just to be certain, there is a separate switch just for the highmount? The tail lights still work fine. Thanks again, when things dont work proper it drives me crazy lol.

Yes, internally in that switch are two contacts. One for the standard brake lights and the other for the center high mount brake light.

Here are some pictures of mine (being a 2010 your 2014 may be a different part number) Nealinator's 2010 GMC Sierra All Terrain Build - Brake Switch Repair
