below is a reference for anyone looking to upgrade their 9006 bulbs to the superior 9012, or their 9005 bulbs to the superior 9011 bulbs and what modifications need to be performed to the bulb bases of the 9012 and 9011 bulbs to fit the 9006 and 9005 sockets

I have been asked why you would want to do this mod, and go from the 9006 (low beam) and 9005 (high beam) bulbs to the 9012 and 9011... I thought the specifications for each bulb type would speak for themselves as why the upgrade is recommended. I've highlighted in bold the winning advantages of the different bulb types

9006 - standard halogen (low beam) (on sale on amazon.com, standard philips 9006 halogen - $7.48 per bulb)
1000-1500hr lifespan (1500hr is the LL=long life bulbs)
2500K-3000K colour temperature
55 watts - 1000 lumens

9005 - standard halogen (high beam) (on sale on amazon.com, standard philips 9005 halogen - $6.22 per bulb)
150hr lifespan
3600K colour temperature
65 watts - 1700 lumens

9012 - HIR2 Halogen bulb (low beam) (on sale on amazon.com, standard philips 9012 HIR halogen - $24.32 = 2 bulb... $12.16 per bulb )
1400hr lifespan
3450K colour temperature
55W - 1875 Lumens

9011 - HIR1 Halogen bulb (high beam) (on sale on amazon.com, standard philips 9011 HIR halogen - $18.53 = 2 bulb... $9.26 per bulb )
400hr lifespan
3600K colour temperature
65W - 2350 lumens

The only "mod" i see for the H11 beams is the modification of the H9 high beam bulbs to fit the H11 socket... the difference will be large in lumen output, 1350 vs 2100 but the bulb longevity is the main issue,,, the H11 bulbs will last 3x longer than the H9 bulbs being used as low beam bulbs, also there is issue of glare caps to not blind on coming drivers with the brighter more powerful bulb

Yeah. Reading that. Would like to address the lows some more. I like the light they put out but the distance just seems short.

see pictures for the H11 to H9 bulb modification, please note if your housing does not have a glare guard these will blind on coming drivers.. they are also 65W bulbs instead of 55W so you need to monitor for melting issues as well

So, is cutting that tab the only modification required? I have a 2012 Silverado
Yes, its as simple as that. If you decide to do it, please write a follow up on tools you used to make the job easier... or if a sharp knife will do the trick!
Thank you in advance
